London street footage which bookends the programme at start and end. I guess the Avantime's capture was a happy accident (unless the director was being cute).

there is really 452 people who went to a Renault dealership and said : " I want that one " ?! :wow:

^ Less than 452 real people. Renault UK couldn't shift them so they were cleared at trade discounts to fleets etc. But Norev's models are very nice ...

It's sad because that teaches manufacturers not to be daring and stick to conventional cars.

It's not "unconventional" (whatever it can mean a conventional car), it's ugly as hell and that's different.

Renault should revisit this. All they'd need to do is turn the dashboard controls into a touchscreen and add LED lights.

At this point it doesn't look "avant time" anymore, more like behind the times, but I remember in 2001 it did look futuristic for a brief moment.

Now the most dated part of it are IMO these matt silver "aluminium" pillars - style of (now) old DVD players or other electornic stuff of that era ;)

If the Avantime is ugly what do you call this?

Weasel1984 wrote DVD players

believe it or not but as of 2018 DVD still outsell Blurays about 3 - 4 to 1

so while old far from dead

^ Possible, but I meant the way how they did look - their design. Such matt silver color was common for home electronic around 20 years ago. It started with real metal, but soon also respecatble manufacturers started to make painted silver plastic parts. After short time (especiallly if these were parts like buttons) they used to look awful.

hmm so I just checked and you're right

nearly all current models have a black exterior instead of silver

the standalone DVD player is about to be phased out as most BLURAY players have CD/DVD capability

Absolutely hideous. Why do cars these days come out of showrooms looking as if they've already been T-boned in a crash?? Does it mean cheaper insurance because there's no visual difference before/after the collision??
