1947/48 Ford, missing the upper bar of the grille. |

In my view , this is not a Ford Super DeLuxe and also not a 1947/8.When one takes a close look at the grille bars , at the side trim bar of the hood and belt and at the front fender trim bar , it appears that they are of the smaller 1946 ribbed type. 1947 and 1948 Fords had thicker and rounder non ribbed trims. The front fender trim bar position also appears 1946 , in 1947/8 it was placed somewhat lower on the fender. The front hood ornament is of the larger 1946 winged type that indicated if the car was a six or an eight , it does not appear to have the separate 6 or V8 emblem at the base of the hood as in 1947/8. Concerning the position of the standing lights under the headlights , one must be very prudent with period Fords because the original inboard standing lights placed above the grille in 1946 were very often later removed , blanked off and repaced by standing lights under the headlights as in 47/48 for legal reasons ( 1946 ones were too high and too close to comply with many export market regulations). The upper grille bar is indeed missing. Windshield reveals are rubber. So I'd rather go for a 1946 Ford DeLuxe Fordor sedan type 73 A. |
