This looks to be a Dodge Daytona.! Not a Pontiac. ;)

Car on left is 1989 Daytona Pacifica with T-top option (black trim around door where frame was cut). Silver factory wheels have been painted black. Car on right is 1984 Daytona Turbo Z painted Garnet Red/Bright Silver.

This car is either an 87 or 88 Shelby Z, pacificas had different ground effects. The 89-91 shelby's had the same ground effects as the ES models, but in a darker grey or body matched.

I'm an avid fan of the TV show "Hunter" and after seeing every episode more than once, I know that in different episodes if you looked close enough you could see on BOTH of McCall's Dodge Daytonas, a Turbo then a letter. From what I remember, this red Daytona was a red 1987 Turbo X (imprinted on the back of the car if I remember right). Her first Daytona, the darker red one, had Turbo Z somewhere on the car.

Actually I was wrong in my last post above...I said I thought I could see a "Turbo X" on McCall's Dodge Daytona Shelby Z. But, the other day I was watching a few episodes and I could still see a "Turbo Z" on it (like her first 1984 Daytona Turbo Z), and not an 'X'. So, my question is was there such a thing as a Dodge Daytona Shelby "Turbo" Z or a Shelby Z that still had a "Turbo Z" option or something? I don't know a whole lot about mid to late Dodge Daytonas??

McCall used this Dodge Daytona Shelby Z from 3rd season through fifth season. In season 6, her last season, she used a brand new gold 1990 Dodge Dynasty. Hunter used his 77 Dodge Monaco through season 6...in last season, season 7, he finally got a new car--a new silver 1990 Ford Crown Victoria.

Out of all McCall's cars I liked this red 87 Daytona the best, and I actually liked Hunter's old dark green 77 Dodge Monaco better than his new car. It just seemed to fit him better. ;)

In season 7 Hunter was promoted to a more prestigious part of the LAPD and the show decided have him be more by the book and less "wild/cartoonish" as the previous seasons. So a brand new Crown Vic seemed to be the right move.

I know...by season 5 or 6 Fred Dryer became one of the executive producers and he himself actually wanted to start evolving his character--to sort of "grow up" a little. Even before he got the new Crown Vic, in last season, the character of Hunter had started to change and be more by-the-book realistic. I liked the evolution of the characters in the show...it made it interesting.

However, I never viewed or considered Hunter to be "cartoonish" :wow:  --but he was sort of wild at first. But, he was no-nonsense/serious wild--not bumbling moron such as Barney Fife from "Andy Griffith". Now that was "cartoonish." ;) Personally, I liked his "wilder-Dirty Harry" days in the old Dodge Monaco best. :king: The old 77 Monaco had become such a signature trademark for Hunter that even if his character changed some I didn't like to see the car go. :/ But, I guess the Crown Vic was okay for the last season. Once McCall left, you knew it was the last season anyway. ;)

Well I hate to burst a buble but this car is acually an 86 Daytona C/S, In the movie The Wraith, The car that goes over the cliff wasn't a C/S it was a stand in turbo Z from the Chrysler/Dodge commerical intitled " expressway to your heart" was the one that gone off the cliff in " Oggies Race " While the real C/S was sent back to be cloned into an 87 model for the series Hunter. This is why in some episodes you can see Turbo Z written on the door frame instead of Shelby Z.

I bought only the first 2 seasons of "Hunter" on dvd just because I found out from somewhere that McCall drove a 84' Daytona Turbo Z. Was a pretty good show. Personally I liked the 84' Daytona Turbo Z the best out of all the cars she drove. I have one just like it but in all Black.
