Probably S2 - longer bumpers than S1, and narrow number plate plaque. But it's a strange shape plaque - not the usual square S1/S2, nor the wide S3 for a horizontal plate, so likely an export format. Where are we?? |

GDR series with Thai-style script on the plate, but obviously we're not in Thailand. Since we're in some socialist country I would say Cambodia or rather Laos. -- Last edit: 2019-07-13 22:21:38 |

This episode is set in and most probably filmed in Mununga, Kenya. |

Ah of course - Kenya was a single-party state at the time. |

The car is left hand drive, wrong for Kenya, and the number plate looks Ethiopian. http://plaque.free.fr/af/eth/?path=./_HISTOR/_PASS_1942_AA/ There is an Ethiopian Airlines plane visible in /vehicle_1278886-Hough-Paymover.html -- Last edit: 2019-07-13 22:55:55 |

In one episodes there was an Air France plane for example, so that says nothing about the filming location. |

Left hand drive -- not Kenya. Non-Latin script on registration plate -- not Kenya. |

It was pro-Western and anti-communist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_arap_Moi#Presidency |

I would have wondered anyway if they had filmed in non-communist foreign countries. But why they didn't film ep.05 in Angola? Probably it was too dangerous because of the civil war of that time. |

50s/60s Kenyan plates are always Kxx 123 format, in a very precise UK-style font so this is not a Kenya plate, nor is the possible white one underneath. The sills have been rebuilt and the rubber insets on the over-riders are a good few years newer than the car - could be mid-60s Sunbeam Rapier or similar Rootes-jewel but it seems a bit too tall and thin here. In fact, it may not be the original Rootes bumper as they kinked slightly around the wing ends and this looks too straight. Ethiopia seems a good shout for the (top) plate. |
