From the FAP site it appears some models have the three-pointed star and black grilles, and some no star and body-coloured grilles. From what I've heard Daimler-Benz licensed FAP to produce trucks similar to their own but with outdated or underpowered engines. -- Last edit: 2007-09-13 19:59:29

(Unfortunately the Wikipedia article only appears to cover car engines.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mercedes-Benz_engines On the FAP website, all the trucks which carry the Mercedes star have engines with OM numbers, suggesting that the star cannot be put on models with non-Mercedes engines. For example: http://www.fap.co.yu/fap/2235s.htm That said, some models without the Mercedes star have engines with OM numbers.
