1st generation Ford Festiva 1986-1993.

I just found out that although this is a 1st generation Ford Festiva, the type of grille that this Festiva has in this movie, were added in the 1990-1993 models. The 1986-1989 Ford Festivas had a plain grille.

In the DVD Commentary, director Alexander Payne says "Ford Festiva, the car of an impotent man." :D

In the last scene of the film featuring Jim McAllister's (Matthew Broderick) car, it has changed to another Festiva with a different grille and body-coloured bumpers (although the plates are the same):

This car has been in production also named Mazda 121 hasn't it?

Yes, and when Mazda updated the 121 this car continued to be sold as the Kia Pride (such an ironic name).

:wow:

in germany its usual to say, that a porsche is the typical car for them. For distracting, because the real power is not impressive enough. :D

Actually it is a Kia rebadged as Mazda, not the other way: the Kia came before the Mazda (maybe not in Europe though)

Then this should be origin of Japan, built in South Korea, and made for USA.

And what about my comment? Mazda 121 was launched after Kia Pride / Ford Festiva...

Details at Link to "en.wikipedia.org" was under license by Kia Motors for North America market.

Yes, I know that page, but it is not clear that it is a rebadged Mazda, it looks more like a rebadged Kia, since the Mazda was launched only 2 years after the Kia/Ford.

After checking your statement, you are quite correct. As described starting 1988 model year for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_121 , Kia Pride started at 1987 model year for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Pride and Ford Festva started at 1986 model year..

Sorry for the marque origin confusion :/

Should I create a page for the other Festiva (mentioned in the 3rd comment down), like what was done here /vehicle_44562-Oldsmobile-Cutlass-Ciera-1989.html ?

Those door-mounted seatbelts are a dead giveaway that this is a 1990 model.

Isn't there also built a Chinese fake of this model?
