"Americar" or "Speedway Coupe" ? We have both in the database.

All 1941 Willys were called Americars. There were 3 coupes a De Luxe, a Plainsman coupe and a Speedway coupe.

It's a fiberglass shell made to look like a '41 Willys.

I could have sworn I put replica in the extra info. They end up cutting the shell in half and making military themed wall art for the Wounded Warriors Project charity.

Sooooo... Should those entered as Speedway Coupe be changed to Americar ?

To my way of thinking, it should be entered as Willys Americar and the type of coupe either De Luxe, Plainsman or Speedway

@Exiv96 - What makes you so sure it is a Speedway replica??

Exiv means these, currently listed as just "Speedway" whatever.

As you can see, all Willys were called Americar. Link to "www.ebay.com"

There were 3 coupes - Americar De Luxe, Americar Plainsman and Americar Speedway. Info comes from the "Encyclopedia of American Cars"

So, what do we do with the various Americars and Speedways (and one simply listed as a Willys Coupe)?

In 1940, there was no specific series. Just a Speedway or a De Luxe coupe or sedan

In 1941 and 1942 called Americar. Americar De Luxe, Americar Plainsman and Americar Speedway coupe or sedan.

As to what differentiates a Speedway from a De Luxe and from a Plainsman, I do not know. Is there an expert, perhaps Commander 57, that might know??

Still leaves a dozen Americars, one Speedway Coupé (no Americar), one Coupe (no Americar nor Speedway), three Speedway Sedans (no Americar), and this replica.

What make sit a Speedway as opposed to a Plainsman or a De Luxe??

I don't think anyone really knows, which would explain that dozen listed as Americar with no specified trim level.

Since the prevailing opinion on the database is that they are Speedway coupes, list it as a 1941 Willys Americar Speedway coupe REPLICA. Yes, No
