1963 Le Mans, #21 Ferrari 250 P [#0816] Lorenzo Bandini/Ludovico Scarfiotti, winners. My efforts to ID this got bogged down with the 1965 Le Mans event which Ferrari won with a 250 LM #21 and another entered with #23, until I realised all 250 LM were closed roof coupes. Some naughtiness with chassis numbers, as #21 was entered as chassis 0814, but - "While 0816 was not originally scheduled to compete at the 1963 Le Mans, the Ferrari Classiche department’s detailed documentation on the Works cars has confirmed that the original entrant, 0814, was severely damaged in a practice accident at the Nürburgring one month before Le Mans. Factory documentation confirms that 0814 was still being repaired during Le Mans, and rather than submitting new paperwork for a replacement entry, Scuderia Ferrari simply sent 0816 to Le Mans under 0814’s identity." - http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0816.250P.htm Which also means that 0816 is a 2-times Le Mans winner - also in 1964 (Jean Guichet/Nino Vaccarella). Similar feat achieved by Ford GT40 [P/1075] in 1968 (Pedro Rodriguez/Lucien Bianchi) and 1969 (Jacky Ickx/Jackie Oliver). Any other known double winners?? ![]() |
