Rolls Royce? |

Yes, I think it is a Rolls-Royce 40/50 "Silver Ghost". |

I agree with Rolls-Royce 40/50 h.p. 'Silver Ghost'. The coachwork looks very much like a ca. 1910 Roi de Belges. http://www.crailville.com/coach/rolls/rolls11/ |

Is it useful to have a so long name? Only "Silver Ghost" in the model name and the full name in the comments would be OK I think, like the other than you sent me some time ago: /vehicle_11202-Rolls-Royce-Silver+Ghost-1907.html |

Well, the title is rather long. I had some problems getting it into the field. The difficulty with cars of that era is, that there are always two companies involved, one building the chassis and engine (sometimes even this comes from a third party) and the other doing the coachwork. In this case the chassis and engine are: Rolls-Royce 40/50 h.p. 'Silver Ghost' The coachwork is (probably): Barker of London 'Roi de Belges' Open Tourer With such nice cars one gets rather long names. Actually Silver Ghost is only a name adopted after the silver coloured RR seen here /vehicle_11202-Rolls-Royce-Silver+Ghost-1907.html made his record run. The official name, or perhaps I should say denomination, is 40/50 h.p. |

OK By the way, in correct French it would be "Roi des Belges", not "Roi de Belges", that's strange (on internet, both are found for this car) -- Last edit: 2005-10-15 15:36:50 |

Probably there are other people like me with very little knowledge of correct French grammar. |

This is a 1912 Silver Ghost, chassis #1979 with replica Roi des Belges body buit by Roger Wing. |
