706 RT or MT. One more time I tried to compare them, what is not so easy, e.g. many of RTs had cabs with such lights/indicators too |

a better shot of the plate? Skoda-Liaz were extremely rare in Western Germany, AFAIK they weren't officially sold here at all. |

We can rule out Czechoslovakia, because trucks had yellow plates. /vehicle_797185-Skoda-Liaz-706-RT.html |

That seems to be a 706 RT, not an MT. He has the simple rear axle and Trilexräder, as far as can be seen on the blurred picture. The MT had an AP axle (outer planetary axle ore double translated axle?) and almost never Trilex wheels. It will be a registered in the GDR car, which had accidentally driven into the picture. The small panel left (right in the direction of travel) from the grille is quite typical and indicates the location of the exact forwarder. |

Indeed the "trilex" wheels are often mentioned as most notable visual difference between RT and MT, but again plenty of period factory materials, where trucks with "trilexes" are described as "MT" don't help. From many examples this one is interesting the most: https://www.amazon.de/Skoda-Liaz-706-Kipper-Prospekt/dp/B005A2CKUG - by what I know, there was no short cabin tipper in RT range, so this pic supposes to be correct for MT, but still they maybe could use picutre of the rarer MS... |

That's the problem with the brochure pictures. Most prototypes are used for the first brochures, which then cause confusion. There were often transition models with features of the old series, of which there are usually only a handful. Decisive is indeed the engine, whether RT or MT. And you can not see that in pictures. If, as here, both the trilex wheels and the simply translated rear axle are visible, then I think that's enough to fix a RT. |
