@andrepa or someone else with knowledge about cars in Germany: The featured MB has the usual left hand side door mounted rear view mirror, and another one on the right hand side front wing. I think I have seen 1960's, 70's and 80's German cars with only the left hand side mirror, and that the reason why was that the right hand side might have been illegal at some point. Because of that I have a few questions: - Was the right hand door mirror illegal? If so, between what years? - What was the reason for just having one outside rear view mirror? - Was the right hand mirror allowed when the car was equipped with a towing hook? - If it was allowed to have another one when having a towing hook, were there other exceptions? How about the police, or the taxis, or bigger vehicles like trucks or Pritschenwagens? |

I think that right side mirror was optional. Because Germany. |

What I remember about: 1. I don´t think the mirror on the right was illegal, it just wasn´t needed. 2. Since an ordinance from 1925 every vehicle (except three wheeler and some others) needs a mirror to look back. They were just on left, because we have LHD cars. 3. When cars were too big they needed a mirror on the right. |
