@lateef, with your extensive knowledge, do you have any input or any interesting information to add to these? I never knew they existed until today.

Maybe Commander57, have not seen him lately, might have information to add?

How rare are these?

According to:
JeffDeWitt wrote The Champ was built from 60-64 and there were quite a few changes. This looks to be a later one with the wide (Dodge) box, earlier ones had the narrow (and much better looking) Studebaker box. This one also looks like it had a deluxe cab and a sliding rear window, which is common now but was a Studebaker innovation introduced with the Champ in 1960.

This was an awful waste of a Champ, they should have used a POS Chevy instead.

I wonder if this is the same truck that was used in Mission Impossible? It's the same color and has the same bed, and these trucks aren't exactly common.

Not sure if the database needs a little cleaning by someone more familiarized with these pickups?

Here's the 1961 brochure, showing the original, narrow bed (P1):

And here is the 1963 brochure, which used the same exact picture, but added the Dodge beds (P2) in place:

According to Wikipedia, it was early calendar-year 1961 when Studebaker made a deal with Chrysler to offer the wide beds, and called them Spaceside. Both were offered until the end of 1961.

Not exactly my forte, I'm more knowledgeable about passenger cars. However, it's basically what JeffDeWitt said: In 1960 and early 1961 all used the original box from the earlier 2R, E-Series and Scotsman trucks, giving it a stepside appearance. Early 1961 saw an engine change, while for mid-1961 the trucks received the 'Wide Box' from Dodge, giving it a bed which pretty much stuck out like a sore thumb. This was kept until production ended in December 1963, while the original box was discontinued by the end of the 1962 model year. There were a few changes for 1963, such as suspended pedals, new leaf springs etc., and an optional camper body dubbed 'Conestoga' but AFAIK nothing visible to discern it from the outside. There was also a shorter-bed version available from 1962.

Putting it simply:
Stepside: 1960-62
Spaceside: 1961-64
