Must have been a mistake - I watched Episode 1.01 and this scene did not appear!

It is in fact Episode 08, which I haven't capped yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P77vdWBTf8Q

As it turns out, although the car and this general scene appeared in Ep. 8, this shot didn't, however, the car appears in future episodes.

Seems to be the private car of Laars (Meelis Adamson)

In episode 11 there is a better view of the car (now you can see what the quality of my pics is like!)

The quantity is also the same as usual, I see

In episode 15 it seems to have been stolen by Rullnokk, the local rednecks. They are approached by "the ass of Martin Müürsepp", a famous Estonian basketballer

The two steal it again in the following episode and listen to loud techno music - Maie and Ämm feel disturbed during their activities of...sitting on the floor half-undressed while Laars fails to inflate an airbed or possibly Uno's trademark red jacket in the background?? so Ämm sends her daughter to handle the situation...

And how does Rullnokk react?

To make an ingo-statement: "Made for EU" is questionable as Estonia would not join the EU until 2004, 2 years after this episode was aired...

Surely it was imported secondhand from western Europe.

In 1987 it cannot be Made for EU. There was no EU.

Gamer DE

2015-11-17 17:41

There was. The EU dates all the way back to the 1950s ;)

3loader RU

2015-11-17 17:44

I see. There was 3 of them: 1952, 1958 and 1993.

European Union was established under the Maastricht Treaty in 1993, before that it was the EEC.

What we count as EU here?

Made-for-EU really means made for non-specific sales across Europe, including countries which are not EU members or only became EU members recently. The 1987 list of countries - for instance - was a fair bit shorter than it is now. And countries have split and/or changed names.

When holding the cursor over the EU symbol, it says Europe. I feel like a broken record saying this, but EU can be short for Europe as in the European continent, it's not obvious it's always standing for European Union.

Not an Ingo-statement, but an Ingo-question: what would be the price for the finger in Estonia, shown to a policeman? In Germany it's IIRC minimum one monthly salary. Gross, so before tax.

"short" but not always correct :p Especially not in pre-EU-times, as back then many EEC-members had own national regulations.

But what does someone know in Norway know about the plenty of more or less bizarre EU-rules :p

It finally reappears again in episode 25. After an angry Estonian Mercedes driver throws a hitchhiking Zorro and Uuno out of his car (Zorro talks down to him through the sunroof before leaving, and the two pelt the car with rocks as it drives away) the two hitch a ride in Laars' Corolla, which unfortunately dies right upon picking the two up...

This episode also shows you how small this car really is:

We could change the image to EUR instead of EU, if that helps cases of people nitpicking :D

The rullnokk's (in English terminology they are chavs or boyracers) are not rednecks. They are local foolish youngsters who work in a car scrapyard and are drinking "Sarvik" every free time (cheap beer that was popular then in Estonia). They love their Nokia and Ericsson phones and they often play "Snake". The Aiku (Aivar Saan/Sõnajalg, the rullnokk with glasses) has high score of 360! :D And they dont't steal the Corolla, it is the Laar's and Rullnokk's shared car :D

Yes, they later formed a duo (cult classic Estonian hip hop!) and they talk about the phone in the beginning of the song "Nokia" :D

What do you mean by that part with the cars that are okay to display?

My favorites are "Loomade Armastus" "Teeme Ka Midagi Vä?" and especially "Mina, Ruila, Taisi ja Pille"

It is 1989. I found a old used car ad with this Corolla. 1.3 XL
