Alexander ◊ 2005-10-07 02:26	I assume that this is either a Wolseley Oxford Hire Car (1946-55) or a pre-war Beardmore (Mk.V or Mk.VI). So far I have no images to confirm any of this. It is not idential to this taxi: /vehicle_11442-Austin-FX3.html which is not an Austin, but probably the other of the two named above.
Sunbar ◊ 2007-03-17 11:01	1939 Austin 12/4 Lowloader Taxi (three wipers not two and a narrow radiator unlike the Wolseley wider radiator). Few of these were made because of the war years and the introduction of the FX3 shortly after the war.
sixteensix ◊ 2009-12-23 01:00	This is a 1938/39 Austin 12/4 'Flashlot' - a term coined by the cabbies of the time because it's design represented a much more 'modern steamlined' approach than that of the Low Loader which preceded it. The bodies were built initially by Vincents of Reading on a standard LL chassis, but they were also made by Goode & Cooper and Jones Bros. - It was to be a further 10 years until its replacement, the FX3 was launched. Production of this type of cab was very limited due to the outbreak of WW2. There are a few Flashlot type cabs shown on this website both as 'preserved' or in period photographs.
