This is a so-called 'auxillary tractor', a wartime conversion since trucks were rare. A similar one: http://www.autogallery.org.ru/k/fb/feifschlepper.jpg Plate IZ = Rhine Province |

Please change 'Auxillary Tractor' to 'Hilfsschlepper', might be better as extra info, too. |

From /vehicle.php?id=429221 "Behelfsschlepper" is another common term. During wartime, from around 1940, many models were converted into so-called auxiliary or emergency tractors due to the war-related lack of trucks. In addition, reinforced rear axles were offered by the factory, which sat further back to move the pivot point with a large trailer load. The "new" axle was driven by the original axle via a chain. The emergency tug was powered by gas and the gas tanks were mounted transversely at the rear of the vehicle. (Translated description from German Wikipedia) Here's some Youtube footage (English subtitles work for this one!) of the only known Ford Eifel Behelfsschlepper survivor. -- Last edit: 2022-11-06 17:46:01 |
