Not wrong, but not right either. GM did refer to them as Pickups, but officially used the C/K name. The C/K Series was introduced for the 1960 model year; the name change was mostly to signify the arrival of factory all-wheel drive. C was rear-wheel drive, and K was all-wheel drive. Before 1960, pretty much all pickups were rear-wheel drive. If you wanted a all-wheel drive pickup, it had to have a conversion kit installed from any number of companies that offered an all-wheel drive conversion, like NAPCO (founded in 1918) or Marmon-Herrington (founded in 1931). Toward the end, GM allowed a NAPCO supplied conversion kit to be ordered from the factory, called the "Powr-Pak" all-wheel drive conversion. It even had it’s own RPO code. -- Last edit: 2012-05-14 21:48:27 |
