.......interesting then that it shows a UK road fund licence (tax) disc? I don't know but I would have said they were not required to be taxed, unless its like ambulances that I think show a tax disc with no fee payable? |

Since it has diplomatic plates it probably means it has diplomatic immunity (it can probably park wherever it wants and not get speeding tickets) so maybe it doesn't have to be taxed. |

This may be stating the obvious, but it's not a real diplomatic car. Whoever prepared the car for filming just forgot to remove the tax disc when they put the mock diplomatic plates on. |

Yes, you're right, I was kind of speaking hypothetically about diplomatic cars. Even in the film it's not a real diplomatic car, it's used in the getaway after they steal the diamonds. During the planning of the heist George (Tom Georgeson) tells Ken (Michael Palin) to get a limo and put diplomatic plates on it. There are two types of diplomatic plates in the UK, one type uses 3 letters and 1 number, the other type uses 3 numbers, then a letter then 3 more numbers. The plate on the car in this film is the latter type (573D107) The first 3 numbers denote the country the D means Diplomat (X is used for non-diplomatic staff) and the last three numbers are the serial number. I don't think the number 573 is assigned to any country or organisation. -- Last edit: 2007-09-14 20:11:40 |

That's great, Burkina Faso's diplomats get their own personalised diplomatic registration plate, while most of their countrymen have probably never even ridden in a motor vehicle. |

"most of" is a bit exagerated I think (now in some African countries you have Toyota traffic jams, I saw few recently in Cameroon ) -- Last edit: 2007-09-17 18:39:01 |

Well Burkina Faso is one of the world's poorest countries. |
