This one is a four star ****
Forgot it on my List :-)

It is used for catching the rhino.

... and yes, this is a real rhino and John Wayne -- no stuntman!!

This vehicle is not an m37, im not positive but, I think it is called a Dodge WC53 probably around 1941.

The name was correct. It is the Dodge M-37 (1951).

The WC 53 looks like this:

The WC 52, for which you probably mistook this vehicle, looks like this:

Certainly NOT a production M37! Perhaps a very early prototype based on the earlier WC52. The movie used two different military Dodges as I remember. This vehicle is based on a WC52 (WC51 w/ winch)1942-1944 with a custom rear bed and rear fenders, and cab. It has a shorter wheelbase than the m37, 1951 & later. This vehicle has the WC series hood, grille, windhsield...and combat rims of the WC period.
I believe the M37 also used in the movie had a similar but not the same modified rear bed. Also the M series vehicle had the later style split rims w/o the larger nuts around the outer edge of the rim. It has been a while since viewing this film but both vehicles were used during the big scene with the Rhino...as if one could not tell the difference.

Jim

I'll let Alexander comment/reply, as I personnally do not know anything to these trucks.

I will have another look at the film, but I lend the DVD to a friend. May take some days.
It is funny, though, that DodgeMan never mentioned this -- he seems to be quite knowledgeable about these vehicles, too.

We'll find out!

Only the doors suggest M37 but they are too low. Eveything else screams WC52...hood, radiator, vented side panels, wheelbase, wheels, windshield...

It is a WC-52 that has been converted with doors and a different back-end. From the side the back end looks somewhat like an M37 but it is not.

To Alexander - DodgeMan has been busy with other things!

I think we can revert the year to 1942, here, in place of 1951 which is not justified.
