why?

Because NYC TAXI had three versions of '80's 'B' body Chevys.
Version one was the 1980 Impala: /vehicle_99046-Chevrolet-Impala-1980.html
Version two was this one shown above with half moon fleet hubcaps as the 1980 had retail hubcaps.
Version three was the 1985 with retail hubcaps and a extra piece on the roof mounted ID plate compared to older ones: /vehicle_5428-Chevrolet-Impala-1985.html

It could just possibly be a movie car, though...
I was driving through Downtown Los Angeles the other day, and I saw a bunch of obviously fake NYC taxis getting ready for filming.

Did you get any pictures of them? What kind were they?

They look pretty authentic to me. They got everything down to the mismatched yellow rim, and the LTD Crown Vic looks pretty real as well.

I understand what your saying, maybe it is stock footage of a NYC street scene. As for the taxis I saw, they were Crown Vics, the 1992-1997 generation, all yellow without the greyish front and back bumpers that the real NYC taxis of that generation had.

For some reason I like both versions. One way to know they're fake is movies like "Bait" where you have a 1992 CV that looks like a 1995-1997 because of its gray bumpers.

1981-1985 Impala 9C6

So I was right at first...anyhow I'm not sure if 9C6 was used before the 1986 Caprices, so it's better to leave it out since it's not something I can verify right now.

Yes, you were right at first hands down. Let's just say I'm repaying my debt to the IMCDB society by helping correct my mistakes. Even though it makes me look like an a$$ doing it, I know when to draw the line when I'm at fault. I apologize to everyone, and especially you Ford Guy.

P.S.

speaking of the 9C6, I can't find it on any of the 1980-1985 Impala designations. The first year I usually find is 1986 and it stretches up to the current year. Good idea to leave out until we find any info on it.

Right. When some verifiable information comes along, I'll be more than happy to input it.
