This was the vehicle similar to the one that was driven by the serial killer, Eric Edgar Cooke when he hit and killed Rosemary Anderson on the night of the 9th February 1963. Eric Edgar Cooke was a career criminal who between September 1958 and the 10th August 1963 was responsible from eight murders and 14 attempted murders throughout Perth and surrounding areas along with other crimes, including vehicle theft, theft of underwear, break and enter, assault and hit and run. His crimes had earnt the nicknames, "The Night Caller" and "The Nedlands Monster". On the night of Anderson's murder, Cooke had stolen a two-tone green Holden EK Special Sedan from the suburb of Wembley, 5km west of the Perth CBD and drove 4km south to Shenton Park where he spotted Anderson walking on the side of the road and had drove straight at Anderson at 40mph (64km/h), hitting her and running her over, resulting in damage to the bonnet, grill and bumper. After hitting her, Cooke turned onto a side street and wiping Anderson's blood off the bumper of the vehicle, before heading back to the scene. After finding that Anderson's body was gone, Cooke left the scene and drove 2km east to Kings Park where he purposedly drove the vehicle along the Australian War Memorial Scenic Route 200 (known as May Drive) and into one of the memorial trees along the route at 20mph (32km/h), causing further damage to the vehicle. After crashing the vehicle, Cooke abandoned the vehicle and walked a short distance, before catching a taxi home. Cooke was hanged at Fremantle Prison on the morning of the 26th October 1964 and became the last man and as well as person executed in the State of Western Australia. After he was hanged, his body was taken to the Fremantle Cemetery at Palmyra in Fremantle's eastern suburbs where he was buried in Plot 409, along with the body of child killer, Martha Rendell who was also hanged at Fremantle Prison on the morning of the 6th October 1909 for the poisoning murders of three of her stepchildren. Rendell became the last woman executed by the State of Western Australia. -- Last edit: 2025-04-23 19:23:49 |
