This is one of the first batch of 6x6 Atkinson snowplough/gritter chassis built - there had been a handful of 8x6 prototypes with a modified bow front cab.

It isn't part of the Knight range, and was always built separately on the Specials line at Walton-le-Dale. The cab is a modified version of the Mk.1, but much of it is different. THis example has a 4-piece windscreen, but later versions had twin screens, although differently shaped from the Mk.1

Chassis nomenclature was originally FM1366C, but this later evolved into SP2266C. Build continued until 1072, and over 400 were delivered.
