I think this is one of United's Leyland Tiger TS7/ECW B35R from 1949.

As a Tilling Company, United favoured the Bristol chassis with ECW coachwork for both single and double deck buses, but also operated Leyland. The third thumb has a Bristol facing the camera.

Having spent the last hour scrabbling about with this, I think I have gone the wrong way. Despite its superficial resemblance to an ECW rear entrance bus body I think that this may be one of the Tiger PS1/1/Willowbrook vehicles and not a TS7ECW.

If the number plate can be decoded as HHN327 this will confirm my new theory.

Yes - plate is HHN 327 = 1946 Darlington.
