Unusually, with side markers? |

Suggests US spec, where renamed as Alpine GT. Can't think of any other explanation for side-markers and Italy an unlikely Rapier market. |

Never seen one in Italy. US spec. for me, too. There were many US Army Officiers serving in Italy who drive Cars with US spec. |

But anyway was available for sale in Italy: Link to "www.archiviolastampa.it" In this newspaper article, it's stated that the importer, Simca Italia, has lowered the prices for the fully imported Sunbeam models to have a bigger competitiveness, for a larger diffusion in the Italian market which was considered very "important" at the time. I guess this strategy didn't worked very well... |

I've always thought that late 60s was a golden age for Italian styling for small-medium sports cars - Alfa, Fiat, Lancia all making really beautiful cars. Although this is a Rootes-jewel, it's about as pretty as a house brick so I can't imagine an Italian thinking "Mmmm - I must have a Rapier instead of 124 Coupé/Alfa 2000 GTV/Lancia 2000 Coupé". |

Given the choice between the Arrow Rapier and one of the last Audax cars is no contest, but I can't say I thought much of the Fiat 124 coupé, preferring the Special T Berlina. |

I think that the average Italian couldn't have thought that exact words, because likely he didn't know what a "Sunbeam" was, despite even being advertised. Link to "www.archiviolastampa.it" But in my humble opinion, I think that's more likely that's really an Italian-spec car, instead of a US-spec car that probably was even more unknown among the very few Americans living in Italy and also that at the time, I suppose, they were preferring American or Italian cars. |
