This was the only episode of New Top Gear I watched, and it was terrible. Host's claims about it being a former German taxi and a Mercedes and therefore tough and reliable goes to show how much they knew. This was universally regarded as the absolute worst Mercedes in the company's 110 year history. It was horribly finished, rotted like an old Brit and did not even come close to its legendary predecessor. In fact, in 2000, the University of Stuttgart discovered that the factory had been filling the paint jets on the assembly line with spray paint canisters that had sat on the shelf for several years and started to go bad, leading to the lackluster paint quality and quick rot. |
