Virginia Plates more or less didn't use those digits. This is what proper Virginia plates look like. The Jamestown plates, used the J-K prefixes only and were issued in 2007. I used to see them alot when I lived there. -- Last edit: 2019-09-02 21:12:24 |

http://www.15q.net/va.html explains it pretty well. The Jamestown 400th anniversary plates started at JAA-1000 in 2002 and moved forward; they got to Kxx-xxxx in 2007 before reverting to the standard base. The standard base has, with some exceptions, been working backwards from ZZZ-9999 since 1993; they're currently somewhere in Uxx-xxxx. There are also the optional scenic base that started at AAA and has been slowly moving forward. Therefore real 7-digit Virginia plate will start with A, B, J, K, U, V, W, X, Y, or Z. 6-digit plates have not been issued since 1993. In our family we've been issued a ZNH in 1995, a JRF in 2004, a KGK in 2007, and a WUU in 2013. Edit to add: UGA and UFW in early 2021. Edit: Saw my first TZx tonight, Nov. 15, 2021. -- Last edit: 2021-11-16 00:03:54 |

That would explain why when I moved there in 2009, we were issued a plate with XNJ-4266 (no longer valid) and my mother’s special custom plate used ZL. Still kept the plates though. |
