Whatever it is(and I'm leaning towards an old Toyota), that grille & headlight arrangement isn't standard.

Yes, it's a Datsun "Lil Hustler" truck with a custom grille.

Is Lil Histler a nickname?
Then we should call it 620 of 720 I think.

garco, I don't recall any specific name being applied to this truck aside from Lil' Hustler. Does anyone else have any feedback?

Others on the site are listed as 620's

Maybe we should list this (and the other one) as 620 also then?

Depends if "Lil Hustler" is a nickname or if it was really used

At the very least it should be listed as "Datsun 620 'Lil Hustler'" or "Datsun Lil Hustler [620]"

o.k. ~ so...

i think i can shed a little light on the rather confusing naming issues of the Datsun 620 Trucks.

the page for this "customized beauty" is as good a place as any.

these were sold from early 1972-1979, and were first sold as 1972 models - unlike the later D21 Trucks that were released in mid-1986 and first intended to be sold as 1987 models.

the entire series was sold as the Datsun 620 in the U.S., and listing them as such will keep them together here rather than under 12 different model names.

the early models were frequently referred to by engine size... "Datsun 1600 Pickup" for example. displacements were 1600 for '72-'73, 1800 for '74, and 2000 for '75-'79, though the later models were seldom referred to by displacement for U.S. distribution, as Datsun was quite content to have "Datsun 2000" bring the roadster to mind rather than the trucks.

beyond that, at different times, which i'll try to explain here, they were referred to in factory literature in different ways as "Li'l Hustlers" - much like the later D21 Trucks were referred to as "Hardbody Trucks" in ads and brochures at certain points for the U.S. market.

in 1972-1974 the brochures for these were titled "Datsun Pickup", and the trucks (all short beds at the time) are officially referred to as "Li'l Hustlers" in the brochures.

in 1975-1976 the brochures themselves were titled "Li'l Hustler", and the long bed versions that were new for 1975 are referred to as "Li'l Hustler Stretch".

in 1977 the brochure reverted to being titled again as "Datsun Pickup", and the versions are listed as "Standard" (with no mention of "Li'l Hustler"), "Stretch", and the newly released "King Cab".

in 1978 (and carried over for 1979), the trucks received a new grille. the brochure was titled "Datsun Trucks", and the versions were listed as "Li'l Hustler" which returned as the name for the short box version only, "Stretch", "King Cab", and for the first time, a "Cab& Chassis" offering.

all that said... from what i can tell, this one can't be determined from this angle to be anything other than a 1972+ Datsun 620... with a really "hip" aftermarket grille and headlight conversion.

:p

I thought this was a Dodge D50 Pickup which was a Mitsubishi based pickup truck built from 1979 to 1986
