No, that's an '81: Eggcrate grille, no parking lamp lense ornaments, narrow bumper trim stripe, Cadillac nameplate over the grille. |

Disagree about the Cadillac logo in the grill header as a distingushing feature as I have seen plenty of 87's with it there, but I do think you might be right about the year. It's weird, they used a tight egg crate grille for 81', then changed to a more vertical design for 82', then for 87' went back to a tight cross hatch very similar to 81'. That threw me but there's no denying the lack of parking lamp ornaments, which would have been an 81' characteristic. |

And don't forget the bumper trim. For 1986, that was widened and colored gray instead of white. I mentioned the nameplate location to distinguish from later years when it was moved to the grille. Did not mean to imply the '87 didn't have it there also, just that it is further proof that this is an '81. (In '83 it was moved to the grille.) The grill, script, turn light color and winged emblem combinations for the the 1980-1992 Fleetwood Brougham (Brougham '87+) are confusing and quite varied. Making matters worse for identification, the components are all interchangeable between years so many combinations can result with mixing parts, which happens often. 1980 unique one-year-only grill, script on header, amber turn lights 1981 new grill (later re-used on '87-'88) script on header, amber turn lights 1982 new grill script on header, amber turn lights 1983 same grill as '82 with addition of script to mid-lower driver-side, clear turn lights 1984 same as '83 but addition of gold winged emblem on turn lights 1985 same as '84 1986 same as '84 but with amber turn lights and new bumper rub strip 1987 re-use of '81 style grill, script on header, amber turn lights and winged emblem chrome 1988 (switch to Brougham for name) front end same as '87 1989 Back to '82 style grill (with a polished chrome look) with script on driver-sede grill in lower position than previous, amber lights with chrome emblem 1990-2 New composite headlamps and bumper treatment, same grill, script as '90 -- Last edit: 2016-07-26 15:42:19 |

Nice list, Drujon. And highly accurate. I could find nothing I disagree with. Perhaps our resident expert for these Cadillacs, somename, could review for complete accuracy. A similar list for rear changes (there were several over the years) would be nice, too. |
