BWE 203 was Sheffield, late 1935, so presumably related to 1936 purchase of Glenboig Union Fireclay Co by General Refractories Ltd of Sheffield. I thought Ford Eight Van [Y], but "The spare wheel was moved from the off-side door to the near-side door in October 1936. Tthe Model “Y” van was never manufactured with rear windows, only with three horizontal air vents in each of the rear doors.". So as both film and plate dates are 1935, either I'm wrong, or the van's been upgraded from factory spec. |

Certainly looks like a modified "Y". http://www.fordyandcmodelregister.co.uk/images/model%20Y%20SR%205cwt%20van%20BIG.jpg |

The size and general outline confirm the Model Y basis, as does the apparent lack of longitudinal springs. The wheels and the hubs also look correct. I cannot find any proof that Ford was willing to supply chassis or chassis/cowl to retail buyers, or even to coach building firms, so, would they have bought a complete van and taken the body off, to add one of their own design? |
