Citroën 2CV maquillée en Kubelwagen, merci à hpdp00 pour l'info ;)

Odd. If you're going to make a fake Kubelwagen, why not use a Volkswagen?

EDIT: Here's someone who does:

et le Citroen U23 oublié! :(

Isn't this a Kubelwagon? The script even identifies is as such.

It is a fake one based on a modified 2CV (as it is destroyed, using a real one was probably not a good idea)

To be honest, I'm not so sure this being a 2CV based car (even though it's off-road ablilities would be much better than those of a Volkswagen). I can't see the heavy 2CV wheel arms...

if it's a fake , it's on a beetle floor pan , not 2cv

Well, Made for Movie then... for some time this one was confirmed as 2CV by few people :??:

Upon rewatching this scene in the movie I realized there's only one person in the Kubel. The driver. What he expected to do, how he expected to help, is beyond me. But darn if he doesn't charge valiantly ahead of the troop carriers.

"Nein, Klaus! What are you doing? You are but one man in a Kubelwagon, up against Harrison Ford!"
"NEIN I AM IN EIN MONSTERKUBEL!"
"He's drunk again..."

*Kubel hits tank*

(Slurred German accent) "Ach, fight me like a man, Harrison *hic!* Foooo--wait, why am I being upside-down? oh, schei--" *BOOM*

Incidentally this always bugged me, for two reasons. One, the movie is set in 1938 (or thereabouts) and Kubelwagens didn't go into mass production until 1940, right? Secondly, this Kubel, as well as the second one, the tank, trucks and the Renault Torpedo, all belong to the Hatayans. What are Hatayans doing with not one but two German cars that were still in the factory as of '38? Or with German cars, period? Did Germany export any Kubels to foreign countries?

QUOTE "What are Hatayans doing with not one but two German cars that were still in the factory as of '38?"

Wolfsburg was just beginning to crank out the first few KdF's in '38, the Kubel hadn't even entered Herr Porche's mind then.

How do you tell so easily that it is a made for movie?

Only trained Volkswagen enthusiast or connoisseur can tell the difference ;)

When you see the Kubelwagen so many times, it becomes second nature to see the difference.

I like Volkswagens, and I hear some people say this was built on a Beetle chassis.

However, I'm not an expert or an enthusiast. ;)

I'm not so sure. It looks more like a 2CV chassis than a Beetle chassis.

By the way, AFAIR the movie takes place before the war, while VW Kubelwagen was produced from 1940. So they put an effort to build an anachronistic vehicle :)

Vogel says "den Kubelwagen sprengen!" (nice German skills), so I guess they needed a vehicle as true to that line as possible.

Not only that, but this Kubelwagen (and the other one, and the tank, trucks etc.) don't even belong to the Germans in the story. They're used by them, yes, but only because the sultan gave them to the expedition in return for the Rolls-Royce.

You'll note that the Kubelwagen and other vehicles all have (what are supposed to be) Republic of Hatay symbols on them, not German ones.

So not only are the Kubelwagens anachronistic... they belong to the wrong country's military.

In fact, Kubelwagen (short of Kubelsitzwagen) was a generic name of light staff cars, initially equipped with open sides and bucket seats (German: Kubelsitze) - so a Kubelwagen in the 1930s should look like this: /vehicle_466179-Wanderer-W-11-Kubelwagen-1933.html :)

I know that already. I was just saying that to most audiences familiar with the word "Kübelwagen", the term would almost certainly refer to the VW one.

Pibwl PL

That's what I mean - I wanted to underline, that the producers put a wrong Kubelwagen, according to popular belief how such car should look like :)

I had to stop the movie and use Google because it irritated me that the Kübelwagen wasn`t a cabriolet but it had a full steel cabin and roof and even a third side window.
The category of the "Kübelwagen" had their name from the bucket seats (bucket = Kübel) and they were all cabriolets to get easy in and out.
