And it's new for 1977.

I am not sure about this, but are we sure this was a 1977 Pinto? The "Pilot" TV movie began filming in mid-to-late 1975 and premiered in March of 1976. Once the movie was an immense hit, the actual series was given the "green light." The series began filming during the spring and summer of 1976--the first actual episode premiering in September of 1976. So, the clip of the Pinto above is actually from the second episode (not counting the "Pilot" TV movie) called "The Mexican Connection." The actual first episode of the series was called "Hellride" and I don't think any of the "signature" cars were used in that episode.

Now, I am no expert about what month new models usually come out. But, when they began filming in the spring and summer (most likely when "The Mexican Connection" was filmed) that seems a little early to be the new '77 model. I'm wondering if Sabrina's (Kate Jackson) Pinto actually was a 1976 model--like all the other cars were. The Mustang Cobra II (driven by Farrah Fawcett and Cheryl Ladd), the Mustang II Ghia Coupe (driven by Jaclyn Smith), and Bosley's (David Doyle) Thunderbird were all '76 models to start with. I do believe that a '77 model of the Cobra II was later implemented.

Just wondering?? :D

I noticed that some Pintos had orange plaid interior with black dash/steering wheel and some had tan plaid interior/dash etc. Here are some pics of the different cars.

I was looking not too long ago in an actual Ford Car book that covered all Fords from the early 1970's to the late 1980's. This car used in "Charlie's Angels" is a 1977 year, but the actual model was called a Ford Pinto 3-Door Runabout. The 3-door meaning the opening hatchback door. If someone can add this to the model name, that'd make it more accurate. Thanks!

The 1976 model had a one year grille. This one is definately a 1977.

My quote you used was from several years ago. A later one I made just above this stated I did know that the Pinto Kate Jackson drove was a 1977 model. After my first comment I did more research into the Pinto Jackson drove and found it indeed was a '77.

I've seen "CA" many times over...but I don't remember the Pinto ever getting completely crushed?? But, it's been several years since the last time I went through the show, so maybe it did. But, in reality they would not have actually crushed the real Pinto--as it's one of the cars used throughout the entire series (except for Season 5 Hawaii episodes). On the show, if it was supposed to have been crushed, then supposedly Charlie replaced it with an identical model--and that's how Sabrina (and later Tiffany and then Julie) always still had the same car.

Was the Pinto used on the show here plain "Orange" or "Vista Orange"? I think Orange was available only in 1976--while Vista Orange was used for 1977 models--but I'm not sure. Just wondering...

As I had stated on a different page, some of these vehicles are the "stunt model" and some are "glamour shot" models (used for close ups, and usually are highly optioned)….. so there will be differences noticed from time to time….. I noted on some of the pics that the "sunroof" in not present, which is always present when they are using the "glamour shot" car…. Another thing I would like to point out is that some of the shots use a "cut away" vehicle in the studio for scenes. That is a car that only is pieces of the car that will be seen in the camera's view, and has a previously shot background projected on a screen behind the actors. The "cut away car" is not a full vehicle at all….. therefore, there can be major differences b/t that vehicle and the cars used in actual outdoor scenes

Actually this is incorrect. The first time we see the Pinto is in Episode 1...the first regular series episode, after the Pilot TV movie—Hellride. It’s shown, along with Jill’s Cobra & Kelly’s Mustang II, out front of the agency headquarters.

Adding some interesting info...I’m currently going through the original Dynasty...also produced by Aaron Spelling. Never seen it before so it’s all new and fun for me. But, anyway I watched an episode from 1981/1982 the other night, and actress Heather Locklear was driving an orange Pinto that looked identical and/or exactly like Sabrina’s/Tiffany’s/Julie’s here. ‘81-82 was just a year after “Charlie’s Angels” went off the air...I wonder if one of the C.A. Pintos was still sitting around the studio lot and Spelling used it for the scene in Dynasty? I can’t believe that another orange Pinto would just “magically” happen to be a car chosen by Dynasty producers, if Spelling hadn’t been the executive one. ;)

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier! I don’t remember what episode it was...early Heather Locklear. ;) I’ll see if I can go back and try to find which episode she drove the Pinto in. It was just a quick scene at a gas station, but it looked just like one of the CA Pintos.

I just went through the Season 2 episodes (Sammy Jo arrived in Episode 2.05) and didn't see the Pinto, but in Episode 2.07, Steven Carrington is seen racing Jill/Chris's Mustang Cobra, and one of the cars he's racing is an orange 1969 Dodge Charger (former General Lee)

Add: I found an orange Pinto in Ep 3.12, when Sammy Jo is returning to Denver, but it has the 1979-80 taillights, but it does look like Sabrina's Pinto otherwise

Oh yeah...I do remember the 2nd season episode where Steven races the Cobra! I forgot to bring that up too! The orange Charger could have been a General Lee, but “Dukes of Hazzard” was still on and rising to popularity at this time...so I’d of thought they’d of kept & utilized every 69 Charger they had. ;) But, you never know?

I knew Sammy Jo (Locklear) drove an orange Pinto coming back to Denver, at some point. I thought it had been Season 2, but it must have been 3. If the Pinto had later-year taillights then it probably wasn’t a CA “leftover”. But I just found it too coincidental that right as CA had gone off the air, an orange Pinto (that looked identical to CA to me) showed up on another Spelling show. ;)

However, even though I’ve not ever heard or read they did...were later year models (than 1976) of orange Pintos possibly used on CA (such as a 79-80 model)?

The orange Pinto doesn't get used much during season five. The last episode "Let Our Angel Live" is one of the only episodes I've seen where Julie actually drives it. In "He Married An Angel" I remember her sitting in it.

You are both indeed correct. When they moved on to season 5 the needed the orange Pinto for Julie’s character - for whatever reason (maybe the yellow repainted crushed Pinto WAS the only one left (originally I believe they started off with 3-4 — one being the glamor close up shot car, the others being stunt models - anyway the got a 79 or 80, and placed the front end of a 77 for continuity….. when Julie is working at Riordan associates, you can see her car parked outside with the rear end tail lights of the 79 - 80 model. In let our angel live, as Sheehan Bosley back up and go forward you will see the rear end also has 79-80’ model tail lights, but clearly had a front end from a 1977 or 78. So indeed the orange Pinto on dynasty had to be that pinto.
