tipo158 wrote The 1964 film 'Kisses For My President' features a segment featuring a Jaguar D-Type.

In the film, the car is owned by a Central American dictator played by Eli Wallach. He is on a sight-seeing tour with the spouse of the first woman president, played by Fred McMurray.

When the car is introduced, Wallach's character is picking it up from a shop that has uprated the chassis and engine. After inspecting the car, Wallach takes McMurray for a wild ride, including erratic, high speed driving. He races a train and tests getting up to 90 mph and then stopping at a precise location in a short distance. They are pursued by the Secret Service during all of this.

The car looks like a race car, including a frameless racing windscreen and no taillights. However it does not have the headrest fairing usually seen on D-Type race cars.

It's more like a Lister Jaguar - basically a rebodied D-Type. Or maybe the similar Lister Chevrolet if the Jag reference is wobbly. This one looks very low so is I think one of the later ones. Frank Costin did the restyling, and I think he did similar for eg Lotus and Lola, so I would not completely rule those out - this looks as if it could even be rear-engined with such a shallow bonnet, which would knock out a Jaguar connection.

Could be. Because it didn't have the headrest fairing, I didn't think it was a D-Type, but multiple sources indicated that it was a D-Type, so I submitted it as that. I can get more screen grabs of different angles if that will help. The scene opens with the engine cover open, but the engine cannot be seen.

The movie can be streamed on tcm.com if you subscribe to TCM through Nov 6 (I think). It starts at around 40 min. in and is on for about 6 minutes.

One odd thing is the mechanic in the film is Italian, but all of the cars in his shop are English. In addition to D-Type/Lister-Jaguar, there is a Rolls, an E Type, an AC Ace (?), and some other XK in the background.

I'm fairly sure this is a Frank Costin design. If the bonnet is high enough for a front engine, I think the 1959 Lister Jaguar is a pretty good match - Link to "s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com" , http://trackthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/060_M030227.jpg (which is chassis BHL123).

Background cars above - convertible with open bonnet is 1956+ Mercedes 220Sb (or similar digits) and looks like E-Type behind on right (= XK-E in US).

Good catch on the Mercedes. I did the screen grab through the TCM app on my iPhone, so it was small. Viewing the image larger it is more obviously a Mercedes and not a Rolls.

As the characters enter the scene, they walk past an E-Type, (what I think is a) XK150, and (what I think is a) AC Ace. Then there is the Mercedes behind the Lister-Jaguar, plus a car to the right (what you guess is an E Type) and a car to the left that I can't identify.

Another thing that I noticed is that the Lister-Jaguar starts off with no taillights but later acquires taillights as it drives along.
