A little interesting fact for anyone who knows DSM's, this car was actually powered by a 420a motor, not the usual 4G63 that makes more power.

The question I have is... Was it a GST or a GSX for the movie? I bet it was just the GST.

The best scene in the movie was when it blew up.

Because I hate Neon powered junk. If you look when the car has its hood open, you'll notice the 420a motor. It looks different from the 4g63 (of which I own FIVE, including my 11 second Galant VR-4.) You'll also notice the fake discs on the back, which cover the rear brake DRUMS which are only on the RS. I have been an Eclipse owner since 1989, owned at least one of every generation, and am a Mitsubishi Dealership Master Technician for the last 17 years. What I don't know about these cars, isn't worth knowing.

wow nice exterior style! i like the overall structure! its very similar to the eagle talon, the redesigned eclipse got dual airbags, more rounded-styling, larger interior, more compact eclipse ac compressors and a new base engine.

420A's found in base model Eclipses (like this) also powered Dodge Neons. So yes, it is Neon powered.

the only eclipses that DIDN'T get Chrysler 420a's were the Eclipse GS-T, Eclipse GSX & Eclipse RS Spyder (Convertible). THOSE got the 4G63T (T to designate TURBOCHARGED). In the movies sounds, you ALWAYS hear a blow off valve when this eclipse is being driven. that means that it's got a Turbo. HOWEVER, when Jesse is looking under the hood at the first street race of the movie which features Vin Diesel in his red Mazda RX7, Paul Walker in THIS Mitsubishi Eclipse, RJ DeVera in a 96-00 Honda Civic, and Ja Rule in the Polk Audio/Momo Integra. Jesse says "It's got a Cold Air Intake, a T4 Turbo". THAT's IDIOTIC when you have a turbocharger, a Cold Air Intake is Nullified completely. the air the car is getting for intake is coming out of the turbine that's spinning (the turbocharger)...so a Cold Air Intake would be totally pointless in a turbocharged engine

2g is not a chassis code, it's a generic reference used in the automotive community for the 2nd generation body style. The actual chassis code for Brian's Eclipse would be D31A. A cold air intake would not be pointless on a turbo engine, because both boosted and n/a engines can have cold air intakes. Any aftermarket pre-compressor intake that pulls air from outside the engine compartment is, by nature, a cold air intake. It would also offer performance gains over stock when used in conjunction with a FMIC and intercooler piping. And lastly, the Eclipse would have been tauted as a GS-T, in anything, but no direct reference is made to it. It's basically a tuned 420A engine (which are actually decent engines).

Look, if you want to sound like you in any way know what you're talking about, at least get the terminology right.

First off, there are no such thing as a turbine blowing air into the engine. There's a turbine driven by the hot exhaust gasses which in turn drives a centrifugal compressor - hence the name Turbocharger - another name for Turbine driven compressor. That compressor compresses the charge air which is fed into the engine.

Secondly. In a forced induction engine, whether being it a turbo, centrifugal supercharger, a lyholm or roots, a cold air intake has nothing to do with how the compressor stage delivers the air into the intake manifold. Generally speaking, it's never a bad idea to get the air for the engine as cold as possible by using a cold air intake. In a turbocharged application, this can in fact be very crusial. The reason is that if you strap the air filter directly to the turbo, you are sucking in air that surrounds the hot compressor housing and the engine, and most likely the red hot turbine housing and exhaust. Using a heat shielded air intake with the filter mounted so it draws air directly from the outside, will drastically lower the charge air temperature which will make detonation much less of an issue. Now go back to being a Ricer and stop talking about what you don't know.

What are you on about? I was not talking about intercolers, as it was completely irrelevant for my post and point. I was talking about the use of a cold air intake in ANY high performance turbo application, and whether it is used in conjunction with an intercooler or not, is besides the point. If you fail to see that, why are you posing as you clearly don't know what's what? Also, you do realize that Wikipedia is a shitty place for info right? I don't know where you learned about cars, but I learned by working on them. If you want to sound clever, start by posting something clever rather than random BS assumptions.

noticed how utterly MORONIC the choice of car is ??? for quarter mile fast times you need a RWD or 4 WD,

an FWD car is the worse choice for that and almost impossible to win !!!

in reality it would have to been the GSX not just because of Turbo but the AWD for very quick starts

why the heck the producers didn't use that is utterly moronic , you can clearly see in the race starts scene that front wheels spin of which means just FWD
