Did Hindustan produce a wagon version of the Ambassador? That is undoubtedly the Morris Oxford Series III bonnet pressing.

Answering my own question, since nobody else did.

Not a lot of info out there, but seems there were various attempts at an estate and various names (Traveller, Porter[although Porter may have been a pick-up], Station Wagon) In 1957 there was a brief attempt which produced a 3 door half timbered version - pictures a quarter way down Link to "www.team-bhp.com" of green and black examples - but maybe only 16 built. More info on that black one within http://www.telegraphindia.com/1150125/jsp/graphiti/story_9498.jsp and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HyPI-c3BCY . Looks very much like the UK Oxford S3 Traveller bodywork

Then some photos near top of Link to "www.team-bhp.com" and a photo of an estate with non-original updates just after half way down Link to "www.team-bhp.com" with caption "A mid-1960s Mark II facelifted to a Mark 4 and made into a Station Wagon in Kolkata. There were no Ambassadors available with a Station Wagon body then. It was only in the 1970s that the Station Wagon/Estate bodies started to appear. The owner had to get the car body made then in the early 1970s. The Mark 4 Porter was factory built with a HM Estate body and the car was called Hindustan Porter. Why was the Ambassador marque not used on the Porter is not known?"

So seems about 1970 for this version which looks like simple conversion of saloon - different body to UK Oxford S4 Traveller which had unique shape rear doors etc.

We have another one here - /vehicle_835244-Hindustan-Ambassador-Traveller.html
