Austin Cambridge, A50, I think, but may be A55 Mk I.

Why have we suddenly taken to adding "Taxi"? The car would not have been purpose built by the factory as a taxi, merely used as one. As far as I know there was no specifics Austin Cambridge Taxi, so I would suggest that this, and other similar labelling so of bog standard saloons are incorrect.

If we reasonably guess it is Japanese built, it would be a Nissan Austin Cambridge A50 —I'm not sure they made A55.

As this is in Japan it will be a Nissan Austin A50 Cambridge, as /vehicle_160139-Nissan-Austin-A50-Cambridge-B131-1957.html
Not sure about the year, though.

Would the Nissan variant have carried an Austin badge?

John, 'Taxi' is not really a 'we' matter, mere a 'I': I usually add this, in the beginning because I thought it was a requisite, then because I found it useful.

But I wouldn't stand up for this fight in this peculiar case.

Good question. I thought 'yes' but I hope some specialist, Japanese or not, can answer.

Personally I think we should use 'Taxi' only when the car has some standard taxi equipment offered by the car factory (different trim or upholstery, separation window, things like that).
On other pictures of the Nissan Austin A50 Cambridge there's always the Austin badge, which isn't surprising as 'Austin' is still part of the name. I guess that the Nissan name was only to be found at the identification tag under the bonnet, and on publicity material as http://www.earlydatsun.com/austina50brochure3.jpg .

All others are listed as "A50 Cambridge", not "Cambridge A50".

My mistake, then, Gag.

About the badge, it seems the cars, though made by Nissan, were sold as Austins (as shown by the advertising literature), so nothing too surprising here. (Oh putain, DynaMike l'a déjà dit !)

I think 57+ deLuxe for hint of thick side trim in 1st thumb. Also see /vehicle_160139-Nissan-Austin-A50-Cambridge-B131-1957.html

21,859 Nissan-Austins (covering both A40 Somerset and A50 Cambridge). This compares with 57,729 Isuzu-Hillman Minxes and about 35,000 Hino-Renault 4CVs.

I did this one - the doctors say I'll be fine in a few days as long as I avoid direct sunlight. And carrots. Next one's yours ....
