No, because that's a DJ-5A, which has the standard CJ grille. The DJ-5, regardless of if it's a Jeep or AM General, had this unique grille. -- Last edit: 2015-07-27 17:33:12 |

5-hole "rounded" grille of a 1970-84 AM General DJ-5x model, with x = B to M as it is a a closed truck, the letter depending on the year and on the engine. The "flat grille" 1968-70 DJ-5A was only sold as a Jeep model, as AMC bought Kaiser in 1970 only. @ rjluna2: your link shows a... Jeep DJ-5A (7-hole flat grille). @ carcrasher88: the "Jeep" in your 2nd link is an AM General model. I've corrected most of those mentioned here, but there does seem to be some inconsistencies: /vehicle_802616-Jeep-DJ-5-Dispatcher.html /vehicle_120291-Jeep-DJ-5-Dispatcher-1965.html Both have the later grille but 'Jeep' stamped into the tailgate. Also, what do the various indicator configurations mean for model year? |

@ Sandie: AMC bought Kaiser Jeep in 1970 and separated the Jeep division from the Defense and Government Products one, renaming the latter AM General. Being both part of the same company, it could have been logical that at least the first AM General DJ-5x models wore the Jeep name (which has to be confirmed, of course), most likely for consistency or for a better commercial visibility. But the last models used apparently the AM General name: see this picture in its largest version. Just keep in mind that all I said until now comes from a few searches in the web. I'll dig a bit more for the "side markers and blinkers/indicators affair" .gif ":)") By the way, I made a small mistake in my previous comments: the history page of AM General says April 1971 for the "creation" of the make. The corresponding DJ-5x are therefore 1971-84 models. _____ Edit: when you look at this DJ5-x, it has the 5-hole "rounded" grille of an AM General model, which is confirmed by the yellow plate inside. But the rear door says also Jeep. Same conclusion as above, for me: the Jeep name was written on the rear door of the AM General models until a certain model year, which has to be specified. -- Last edit: 2015-07-28 21:54:43 |
