Looks ex-military. Maybe a Studebaker?

Well… Hard to decide. Studebaker, International Harvester… Others, maybe…

I think is is based on International Harvester M-5H-6. The front fenders have been extended and headlights relocated forward which would be a common civilian modification. Comments? Not Dodge, GMC, Studebaker, Reo etc...

This is my favourite assumption.

What has Olive-Drab to say about it? Let's listen http://olive-drab.com/od_mvg_www_deuce_ww2_p2.php :

Quote To distinguish the M-5H-6, the visual clues are a one piece windshield and about two dozen louvered ventilation slits in the engine compartment side panels (vs twelve on the CCKW and none on the US6).

So, International Harvester.

Nice closeup of the ventilation slits. They too look modified over the stock IH ones which were not as tall and were higher on the panel. The forward edge of the louvers should be about even with the upper hinge line (butterfly hood)and this one is considerably lower. It certainly resembles the IH M-5H-6 but perhaps not?
A close up of the front axle/hub may help?

The shape of the front fender is also an easy way to identify the IH vs CCKW vs US6 as each has a distinctive shape.

Isn't it the brand that we can read on the hood?

The front edge of the fender is in the shadow of the bumper except here:
