What was again the rule between 98 and Ninety-Eight? (as it is listed with the former one, but the two comments here above use the latter one) |

^We don't have a single Ninety-Eight listed as such before 1971: /vehicles_make-Oldsmobile_model-Ninety-Eight.html |

Indeed, I thought I checked the years but I guess I missed the fact that all our 98 were <=70 and all N-E were >=71 -- Last edit: 2014-12-16 17:28:40 |

But, note "Ninety Eight" is spelled out on the front fender side. |

There has been a discussion on http://imcdb.opencommunity.be/forum_topic-3847-30174.html but I am not sure where it was decided that 1970-1971 was the limit between the two name styles In a previous discussion it was like here, "because they are listed that way currently": /vehicle.php?id=503613 -- Last edit: 2014-12-17 17:24:59 |

Was not privy to that conversation but just out of curiosity, I reviewed brochure photos back year by year from 1970 to 1956 (when I gave up). In each and every year, "Ninety Eight" was spelled out in full on the car. And in all but one of those years, the brochures spelled it out in full in the descriptive text, as well. -- Last edit: 2014-12-17 17:49:19 |

Maybe I should rename to the text version all since 1952 then (cf last post on the forum) |

^Still seems arbitrary. If you are going to re-name; I say do them all one way or the other and be done with it. |

Why arbitrary? That's what Taxyguy posted on the forum: -For 1951 this model was simply "98" -From 1952 until the end of production (1996), the model was called "Ninety-Eight" (with a dash). it is less arbitrary than currently, as there seem to be no reason for the change in 1970-1971 |

^Arbitrary because Oldsmobile's brochures used the two terms interchangeably for decades, sometimes on the same page. Why start at 52? There never was a "98" badge anywhere on the car. |

All Ninety-Eight then? |

^Makes sense to me |
