[PA] 1966-67 (so right for the TV series) followed by [PB] 1968-73. |

It's a Commer Highwayman by CI (Caravans International). As the PA, announced in 1965, it will have the 5-main bearing 1725cc Rootes engine, fitted from August that year. The PB van was announced in 1967. (Simoncars.co.uk and commervanfan.co.uk) I can testify to this vehicle's performance: it was good for 70mph (not undergeared like the Thames 400E) would cruise all day at 57mph or so and was quite economical at 25mpg. My PB Highwayman, JYU 187K, met a sad end in 1990. Prior to that, its less than watertight roof took its toll on the van's white finished curved hardboard ceiling. A typical caravan interior for its era, but there are those enthusiasts who believe the phrase 'camper van' is rather unflattering for fine vehicles like these. |
