Yuck! Cadillac is still relevant? They're still making the Escalade??? This sought of OTT bling-bling SUV trend was last popular in 2003, can't they design & market something exciting again?!! (Other than another Concept car). :( I doubt they'll ever think of putting fins on another car ever again.
This is the legendary company that built cars like the '59 Eldorado! In fact, every Cadillac built from 1916 through to 1969 deserves to be a museum piece in my opinion. These were the cars Elvis Presley bought & gave to people, they were mobsters' favourites! You think of luxury & status - the Cadillac was the US equivalent of the Rolls-Royce! :king:
Sad to see such a great company with a long and rich heritage still wasting materials on the Escalade. In fact, 'General Motors' is a good candidate for the revamped definition of the word 'caricature'. Oh well, at least they still provide people with work and incomes. But for how long...?... :(

... Awaiting angry responses! :D

I don't see how I was trolling? :/

Once for the record - I can still appreciate the fact that Cadillac, by GM - like most car-makers in general, can still make a perfectly 'safe' car. That's admirable enough, and one of (if not the only reasons), I think why any sensible people would still buy a new GM product such as a Cadillac. I can also buy the claim that GM can make a 'reliable' car, too. And yes - the '59 Caddy can be called ridiculous, but at least that apex rocket chrome-and-fin design was only seen in that year alone. They didn't carry the design on for another decade. And - at least, as mad as it was, it wasn't boring (IE - the Escalade). :(

I think plenty of Americans still buy this type of 'bling-bling SUV' hence its continued existence.

But just because something is popular it doesn't mean we have to like it.

Most music recorded since the invention of the electrified guitar for instance..............

I've got a strange sort of fascination for the Cadillac BLS - if you can find one of the few sold in UK, it would be an incredible used car bargain. But that's the only Cadillac I've ever found appealing, and the Escalade just sums up how far they've sunk, so I'm with Leoz on this one.

But the electric guitar has enabled some of the best music ever - just one example.

For Leoz and DSL, there's good news and bad news: The good news is that YTD, it's the fourth best selling Cadillac in the line-up of 6 models (The SRX, which has twice the sales of the Escalade, The CTS and ATS, which beat the Escalade by 1500 and 1000 units each). The bad news is it has the highest sales increase over last year (almost 30%). The year with the highest sales was actually 2006, before gas prices sky-rocketed and the economy tanked.

It's not my cup of tea, but Cadillac would only make them if there are buyers. If Cadillac continued to make cars with fins, they'd be going the way of Lincoln, which only recently dumped it's oldest model, and sells about half of what Cadillac does. They're just waking up in Dearborn, and realized that re-hashed Fords (and old Volvos/Jaguars) are not the answer.

Yes in fact I'm amazed Lincoln is still around, especially after Ford considered axing it a while back...
This was a really biased post - I've always preferred Fords over GM and other western products (having worked jobs which I was able to drive various new & used makes of cars For added comparison). :D I just think it's a shame that a once-legendary company like Cadillac - still produces uninspiring overpriced mediocrity such as the Escalade (a vehicle which I have rode in - Found it unimpressive). Personally I've always hated 'bling-bling'/hip-hop culture, so the Escalade is a vehicle which comes to mind.
Look at FOMOCO today - they've been making fine cars both on the inside and out (apart from MPVs and SUVs/Crossovers -I've always hated those vehicles!). Plus, Ford didn't need to be bailed out by the government (GM), or be taken over by an Italian car-marker (Fiat-Chrysler). Not saying they're a perfect company, but Ford listened to their customers and just about got by. Hence the reason they discontinued the ageing badge-engineered Mercury line (though they could have turned that into something really special years ago). I'm on my 3rd Fiesta now - it drives just like a good-quality Japanese Honda, has the looks and toys to boot, and I love it! :D :D

Then again, if a Fiesta (hopefully one day a Focus - maybe even an ST?) can provide me with a lot of joy, I wouldn't be one to own an Escalade, Range-Rover or a Lincoln Navigator anyway!

oh and btw mercedes, bmw, audi, porsce all produce large suvs that cost as much as escaldes

How dare you suggest that I'm stuck in 2003.

I'm proud to be stuck in 1927.

I also use upper case letters and never commence a sentence with "and".

A few days later...

Maybe I shouldn't have used the word "caricature" (grammatical error - didn't bother editing so late on) :miam: . "Has-Been" is a much more appropriate term. Then again, maybe I am being a bit too hard on "The General" GM.

I'm a fan of GM's long history of big, chrome-heavy, rocket ship-designed, uber-cool-looking rockin' cars (preferably anything from the '30s-'60s - especially the '50s era) , but I've always been a classic car and hotrod freak, so I'm a bit biased when it comes to exterior/interior design. :D  As I said - GM can make reliable, Japanese-quality cars in this day-and-age, despite however bland and boring they look on the outside and inside. Here in the UK, I've seen and been in many a ghastly Vauxhall, Daewoo and awful re-badged "Chevy" - all GM products...

Obviously it is incredibly unlikely that they'll EVER design anything such as the '59 Cadillac, or the '60 Chevy Impala ever again, but it is such a shame to see the same company, bailed out of bankruptcy and stuck on badge-engineering, building already-dated platforms and facelifted bodies such as they've been doing for a long while. Then again, lots of companies do this, even a personal favourite - Ford. But at least Ford can still make an attractive and stylish car in my opinion. GM (and its Cadillac marque) could become a truly GREAT company again if they put more effort into making attractive or (seriously) cool cars? Or at least - something refreshing (I liked the Cadillac 16 - but that was a Concept car built a decade ago!) But of course the public will buy safe & bland regardless...

On a plus note, the major recall GM recently announced took some serious balls. Even though it wouldn't have been necessary if the faults didn't leave the factory in the first place!

Escalade still isnt its Own Model. The Regular Escalade is a Tahoe & the ESV is a Suburban

Might as well take it as a fancier version of the Tahoe, then. Probably would still count, otherwise.
