Glass's gives a Jan 50 date for HGB 957, a Glasgow issue, but DVLA says 1947 - and it seems it's still out there. Not the same car as the other one. The wing mirrors have short arms on here, long arms on the other one. Both types are anachronistic, being a 60s Desmo Boomerang type, which I had on PUJ 647H, my first Capri. Both these cars have a distinct pre-WW2 flavour about them, but have 16 inch wheels with 6.70 or larger section tyres by the look of it, so are probably Silver Wraith chassis. No doubt the Scottish CWS was a bit behind the times in its coachwork ideas. Link to "www.google.co.uk" See the difference against a more modern idea. Link to "www.google.co.uk" Another point of information, pre 1939 there were no Rolls-Royce or Bentley factory bodies. All vehicles received bodies by outside coachbuilders, only chassis left the factories in either Derby or Cricklewood. Post 1945, the standard steel body was introduced and fitted by Crewe works, and used on the Silver Dawn and Mk VI Bentley onwards, but those chassis could also receive outside coachwork. The Silver Wraith chassis was never fitted with the standard steel saloon, both the SWB and the LWB chassis were too long so all Silver Wraiths will have coachbuilt bodywork. There were fewer but still appreciable quantities of Clouds and S-types coachbuilt, which is why I go on about standard steel coachwork when I see it, and a very small number of Shadows etc. received outside bodies. -- Last edit: 2014-06-01 10:06:08 |
