Not Vauxhall Cavalier Mk II,1982-1988???

I thought so too, but the car seems bigger and has quarter windows.

Not a Vauxhall Royale Saloon, or a Cavalier. Also not a Vauxhall Senator as it was later renamed when Opel were no longer imported into the UK. The door mirrors are the wrong shape for either car. The 'C' pillar does not look right for the Royale/Senator for me.

The Vauxhall would also not have the 'Royale' lettering on the right side of the boot lid it would be smaller script-type lettering on the left with 'Vauxhall' in the centre of the rear panel out of shot.

Still trying to decide what it could be? The distored view makes identification a problem (in the picture the front looks wider than the rear - very strange) so judging the size of the car is difficult.

If der.krusche could give a hint on when the car is visible (or better at what hh:mm:ss) I could try to get a better capture

Good suggestion twingoman, Peugeot 405 is possible. The '405' door mirrors are a better match for the picture. :)

I would still like to find other features to get a good identification.

This looks to me like old news footage showing a real police car. Because the car has a single blue light instead of a light bar, which British forces began using in the 1980s, I think it's probably too old to be a 405.

Or a 405 dressed as a police car using what the prop department had in their "police equipment" drawer.

After looking at the (blurred) picture closely, plus pictures of the 405, there is one detail that could confirm it for me. This is the door shut line as it meets the roof of the car. It is quite distinct even in the blurred picture and is the same as a 405. The door mirrors and shape of rear window also could easily be from a 405.

Then it would be distorted the other way round. This looks rather strange!

The reason this looks strange is that it is indeed news footage, from the Poll Tax riots of 1990.

The Peugeot is seen under attack at the 1 minute mark.
