Isn't this the fire truck?

Even though imdb says this was filmed in London, this looks like an American fire truck.

To me this looks like a UK location dressed to look American with a fake mailbox. I don't think it's London, though, because unpainted stone facades aren't usual here.

@dsl: Could it be Glasgow?

It could be. My bolt-from-the-blue reaction to the idea for building and railings is St Vincent Place, junction area of St Vincent St and Buchanan St - http://media.propertydna.com/properties/567/p16fss9bfn1m171ufc4h315t1jki4.jpg , http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1388/1345385935_8e9f3d73fa.jpg , Link to "maps.google.co.uk" but that is a very very long shot.

The scenes with the Buick and the Pontiac might ring a bell too.

Yes - I looked at those and they're sort-of compatible in a general fashion, but not really specific enough to add or detract. I might be right, but would only bet a very small jar of Marmite on it.

The windows of the (mockup)building are looking American, too.

It's a Mack from the 1940s-50s.

The ladder trailer looks to be much older, probably from the 1920s.

Edit: Looks like they made this model longer than I thought, here's a 1966 model with a newer ladder trailer (opposite of what's here)
