Citroën never assembled cars in Brazil, only in Argentina, Chile and maybe in another country I am not aware of. This particular car was of later production, of 66-67, because ihe importation of cars was heavyly restricted before and only diplomats and officers abroad were alowed to bring htem. In those days, only Impalas, and 220-S Mercedes were brought in due to extremely easy sales. If you bring another make, you might be with the car for years. |

Concerning brazilian preference, there is some reason for the previous comment. In the sixties, there was production under license of Simca Chambord and Renault Dauphine (this one with also a 4-gear renamed Gordini). The comparison with other makes, such as Volkswagen, Aero-Willys and even Alfa Romeo was not favourable to French licensees, but even for this, there is an explanation, or two: Dauphine license didn't allow any alteration. The result was that Dauphine didn't resist to bad brazilian roads (they are bad still today); Dauphine was compared to powdered milk (it solves without beating). Simca was different, but their factory in Brazil was so weak that they never produced anything good. Even when Chrysler assumed the factory in 67-68 their products never reached the general standart of other manufacturers. |
