@mike962. Great comparison. This are actually quite different. The inset pics are of a CJ5, the civilian version of the military M38A1 in the main pic. Details visible in these pics. The M38A1 has recessed headlights compared to the exposed lights w/ chrome trim on the CJ. The military model has Blackout lights rather than the traditional parking lights of the CJ. The M series grille has two slotted hinges at the bottom allowing the grille and fenders to tilt forward and be removed for easier major service. The CJ grille lacks these hinges. The Fuel filler opening & fuel cap on the side of the M series Jeeps is much larger than the CJ. The M38A1 has a large glove box on the drivers side to the left of the steering column. The M38A1 does not have JEEP stamped on the side like the CJ. The M38A1 does not have a tailgate. M series has the spare tire mounted on the rear off set to the passenger side while the CJ has a side mounted spare. Minor detail but the spring mounts are opposite on these two as well, the M38A1 front leaf springs pivot in the front w/ a movable shackle toward the rear. The CJ (after'55) pivots in the rear w/ the shackles toward the front. |
