Why 1973 and not 1972? According Wikipedia http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/VW_181 the Mexican assembling -all with elephant foots- started already in 1972. The 181s, sold in 1970/71 in the USA, were all locally (where ) mounted CKD-kits from Germany. |

I don't know when did the USA offically received the Volkswagen Thing. I am not certain that the Wikipedia has the correct information IIRC, I haven't seen the actual Volkswagen Thing with the 1962-71 Type 2 taillights sold in our market |
