Historic footnote: this Transitverkehr between West Berlin and West Germany was the only possibility for private owned bus companies to rule a regulary scheduled long or middle distance bus service between German towns. The law, that only the state owned "Deutsche Bundesbahn" ("Deutsche Bahn" since 1994) was allowed to do that, is cancelled just since a few weeks. In fact they never installed such a bus service, because they wanted to keep the monopole for the trains. So in Germany companies like "Greyhound" or "Citylink" were forbidden. Only "Eurolines" could operate, because their lines go abroad. |
