Cortina Mk 3 - GXL spec or 2000GT?

If a UK car, rear view matches 1974+ 2000E - late wheels and black strip within rear trim panel compared to GXL. GT did not have chrome side strip nor rear pillar logo, though could have vinyl roof as option. But Gag's link on main page to a chase with this Cortina Link to "www.youtube.com" , scenery looks as if could be Aus (including an Escort Mk2 with unusual striping), and car has 1970-73 (UK dates) 4-roundlight grille so very likely an Aus car. Looks like an automatic pedal in one shot. Date still 1974+ but unsure of Aus trim names.

A pre '73 facelift dash on this car can be seen in the car chase ,Also it has Aus spec door mirrors and early rear light lens with small indicator and larger reverse lights than 73+ facelft which had slightly longer indicator section. 74 my XL/2000E rear trim panel may be a later add on. Overall impression to me is of a 73/74 Aus spec XLE .

Yes - as commented this is very likely an Aus car, 73 or later. Some uncertainty about exact year as Aus updates may not have been exactly the same as UK. I'll add one point to earlier that as far as I know Aus Mk3 kept 4 round headlights after 74 and did not adopt UK-style rectangular; 70-73 code seems to have been [TC], 74-76 [TD], but would be useful to have this confirmed.

Square headlights came but I think you are right -a bit after their release in Europe - The update was called the TD series - I have to consult my Modern Motor; Wheels and Australian Motor Manual tests and previews for the exact dates

Here are some dates
The Preview launch was DEC 1974 Wheels (Aus) and the cover car was a red 2000XLE with square headlights replacing the round ones (I have documented from cover to cover Most of Wheels from 1971- 1996)

The Preview Launch was also featured in Dec 1974 Australian Motor Manual see December 1974 Page 38-41 Issue #386 (documented most these 1958-1977)

and no doubt Modern Motor the same time (But I must have missed that issue..(I documented most of these 1971-1996)

and 1 of First Tests of the 6 cylinder version was
CORTINA TD 200/6 XL See Feb 1975 Modern Motor (Aus) Page 24-27 Volume 21 Issue 9
Reg. LYV-207 (VIC);Ford Motor Co supplied fiited 200ci 3.2 straight 6 and Manual 4 speed

Australia got later TD Facelift of the black grill as occured with the UK ones but much later around 1976

turbodigger wrote If anybody is interested. I acquired the Ford Cortina from the movie last year. It's a TC XLE. The body work is still in good condition for a 40 year old vehicle. It had some mods done to it by the film studio which are still fitted to the car. I am looking to sell the vehicle so anybody interested please contact me directly. The vehicle drives, engine is good, transmission is good etc. No roadworthy though. The vehicle is in my possession in Ballarat, Victoria. Australia.

Was the driver who used this car in the chase against the Jaguar a hero or villain?
