Maybe 521, but, as it was stated once, for higher roof default is 522, especially for export. With indicators frames there was small "bordello", IIRC the black ones became standard since 1981/82, but already before that year(s) they were in use sometimes. Let's make 1975 (first year of higher roof in COMECON, previously - since 1972 - only for West Germany). Better you don't count on that. There will be no employees any more since that times. And too often companies have no sense for their own history. There are only single exceptions, where not all the historic stuff wasn't thrown into the garbage. It reminds me the story, my NSU-fellow Heinz has experienced in the early 90ies. He went to the Irmscher-headquarter with the back spoiler of his car, a NSU TTS, on the seach for some documentations, needed for a racing-inscription. The girlies at the counter, the younger blokes, either, said categorically "This is not from us. We only work with Opel. And anyways, what is a NSU?" Any try of explanation was senseless - until Günther Irmscher himself came and has said "Yes. This is from me. Ah, such answers aren't that painful. Everyone, who has a rare car, is familar with that. So after 1990 every older car over here was seen by clueless people as a "Trabbi" (sure, absolutely ANY COMECON-made car was a "Trabbi", too). In the other direction it was/still is not different. So when you go with any NSU to East Germany, everyone will identify it as a "Sapo". And about K 70 (or a Alfa Giulia, Glas 1700 TS even BMW 1800) it's not rarely said "Woah! The hyperrare luxoury exclusive edition of the Moskvich!" @ingo: At least H. Hartge himself is still alive AFAIK, but I don't think he worked on too many Nysas. I even think many of the listed garages/service-partners never even saw a single Nysa. I guess they just had signed some contract and received some service information just in case. Sadly, their service-partner in Heilbronn doesn't exist any more, either. |

Possible... they indeed were quite reliable.  I haven't found export numbers at this forum, but in topic about foreign Nysas, they have a nice pic from the border (CS/W. Germany) with German Hanomag loaded with brand new Nysas: http://nysavan.mojeforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=33&start=75 (bottom of page). @Ingo. Didn't meet yet a well "informed person" of this kind at car event (though they are to meet at the other exhibitions too ). There are of course also owners, who like to create myths as well, but that's a different story.
