I don't know but 1978 Buick Skylark doesn't seems right to me... -> look at this pic: http://www.novaresource.org/gallery4/78ruthl1.jpg -- Last edit: 2006-06-16 21:25:40 |

Chevrolet LN (Luxury Nova) 1977 |

Is the model name really LN ? Maybe we should change it to Nova Luxury or something... |

The only thing I found in reference in George H. Dammann's 75 years of Chevrolet is the Nova LN trim level was available in 1975 model year. This vehicle looks more like 1977 Chevrolet Nova Concours to me... |

This is NOT a Nova. This is a 1977 CHEVROLET CONCOURS. Chevy dropped the word "Nova" from the "Concours" for 1977. I was a GM buff since I was a toddler, collected sales brochures, and my mom bought a new 1977 Nova 4-door (when I was 15) even though I begged her to buy the much nicer and much more plush 4-door CONCOURS. The '77 (and 75 and 76 and 78) Nova headlight frames have rounded corners (not squared, as the car above has), and the '77 Nova's turn signal covers are made of yellow/orange plastic (not clear plastic like the images above). Also, the turn signal covers on the Nova are as tall as the grill, they're thinner, and they're directly against the headlight frames - no portion of the '77 Nova grille encircles the turn signals, yet on this car the grill does. Perhaps more importantly, the CONCOURS has a hood ornament (like the one above; the '76 Nova Concours also has a hood ornament, but a less fancy grille than this - no other Nova variation has a hood ornament) and the grill above is a '77 CONCOURS grill with the thick chrome trim on the hood above the grill - much nicer than the Nova's which had no trim on the hood. Also the CONCOURS has extra wide metal accents around the wheel wells, just like this car; the widely flared metal wheel accents are clearly visible in both images. CONCOURS also had rubber side mouldings along the car. You can see tan side mouldings on the left image on top. TheDriver's pic in the block-quoted link above is indeed a Buick Skylark, probably 1977 or '78. Buicks (even their subcompacts) always had simulated vents in the front fenders like the one in the link. But TheDriver's first comment is incorrect. This can't be a '79 Nova, because the '79 Nova (the last of the Novas) was the only Nova with rectangular headlights. The car above clearly has round headlights. There was a Nova LN but not in '77, and it didn't look like this. For '77, Chevy's only "luxury" compact was the Concours and it looks just like the one in the movie clip above. -- Last edit: 2009-11-07 02:58:16 |
