Imported Lexus, this car was known as Toyota Celsior in Japan, and this is even a left hand drive version. Lexus - brand came to Japanese market only recently. |

Imported LHD cars are status symbols in Japan. The LHD version of a Mercedes, for instance, is felt to be more "authentic" than an RHD model made for the Japanese market. Apparently this even applies to cars from Britain, an RHD country. One explanation I've heard is that owning a LHD car suggests that you employ a chauffeur and have thus passed onto someone else the inconvenience of driving a car with the steering wheel on the wrong side. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving_on_the_left_or_right#Japan -- Last edit: 2006-06-12 16:09:47 |

absolutely right! and some other reasons 1. chauffer can easily open/close the rear door 2. some import RHD are awful finish. gas & brake pedals are too close, can't set the good position for driving, brake works poor due to the too long linkage (so I choose the LHD model when I bought the import car ) |

But why does it have a Lexus logo, if it was sold as a Toyota? |

Which cars are they? |

Toyota Celsior was the car they sold in Japan, this one is imported Lexus. Here's same model as Toyota: http://lita.jp/image/93ucf11-1.jpg -- Last edit: 2006-06-12 16:16:02 |

Because this one is an export model re-imported to Japan. As a Lexus rather than a plain old Toyota, it's a glamorous "foreign" car. |

Now I get it! Thanks! |

Australia was strong! (Congratulations Australia ) Pedal & position problem are especially seen in compact car. Opel Corsa/Tigra & first Renault Clio are not good in my experience. Brake problem was ordinary until several years ago. (decrease recently) Though brake pedal is right side, vacuum & master cylinder are sets left side. I gave up choosing Peugeot 605 by this reason. example of long linkage http://www.peugeot.co.jp/services/recall/image/fig_detail_1078_01.gif |

I've read that there was also a problem with one of the recent Peugeot models (307 ?) : they kept the same windscreen wipers as for the LHD version, which is not a very good idea as the top corner of the windscreen on the driver side is not covered by the wipers then. -- Last edit: 2006-06-12 17:47:49 |

Don't worry, there's two other matches. C'mon Japan!!! |

Yes, it's 307. But same problem is already improved in the Citroën Xsara Picasso (same PSA group!!) The car can't be chosen if there is an inconvenience in the daily use, though I like the feel of Peugeot very much... Yeah! thanks! |
